Doxacon Seattle weekly digest (September 22-28)

For two years now, our very own Fr. Maurer has been writing, compiling, and publishing these weekly digests. For ministerial reasons, he is having to take a step back from his work with us at Doxacon Seattle. We’re incredibly grateful for his dedication to the Gospel and geekiness! His contributions have been invaluable. Thank you, Fr. Maurer! You are in our prayers, and we look forward to working with you in the future!

Every year, we commission an original piece of artwork based on our theme. This year’s theme, Extasis: Escaping Reality in Pursuit of Truth, presented an exciting challenge, and we’re proud to announce that Hailey Gifford has created a beautiful piece for Doxacon Seattle 2025. Watch for an unveiling announcement later this week!

Additionally, this Thursday, September 26 from 6:00-9:00 p.m. join us at Dungeons & Deacons, held at Woodinville Community Church and co-hosted by Advent Anglican Church and Doxacon Seattle. Dungeons and Deacons is a free gaming guild for all ages. Bring a game to share (RPG / Wargamming / Board / LCG) or join one of the games in progress. Snacks are provided. Hope to see you there!

This is a robust week for nerdy news and geeky history! Just yesterday was the Feast of Paphnutius the Confessor. He was at the Council of Nicaea (along with the very well-known St. Nicholas). If you’re looking for a unique and meaningful baby name, his is a good one! (If you’re willing to name your kid Nicholas, but not Paphnutius, you need to reexamine your priorities!).
