We’re thrilled to announce our theme for Doxacon Seattle 2025. As always, we began with reviewing the best contenders from previous years, and soliciting from our Planning Committee new ideas. We had several great discussions, and slowly narrowed down the field until we came to rest on a theme we’re all excited about. And now, we’re ready to present it to you!
Extasis: Escaping Reality in Pursuit of Truth
Extasis is the state of standing outside oneself, outside one’s ordinary experience of life. It’s a major part of what J.R.R. Tolkien described in his essay “On Fairy Stories”, when he talked about the importance of imaginative literature in our lives.
I have claimed that Escape is one of the main functions of fairy stories . . . . Why should a man be scorned, if, finding himself in prison, he tries to get out and go home? Or if, when he cannot do so, he thinks and talks about other topics than jailers and prison-walls? The world outside has not become less real because the prisoner cannot see it.

We’re looking forward to future announcements, including keynote speakers, artwork, and calling for presenters and workshops to make 2025 a fantastic event for everyone at the intersection of faith and fandom!
Moreover, this will be our tenth event! Doxacon Seattle X! So we’ll pull out all the stops for our celebrations this year!
